WINDOWS10, FIXED REDISTRIBUTION OF WINDOWS ON SHARED SCREENS
If you normally work in a multi-monitor location, surely you will have happened to find the windows that you had opened and arranged in a certain order redistributed in a completely different way once the screens have been awakened from suspension.
This problem is particularly present - and annoying - for Windows 10 users (and we are not talking about a recent user: Microsoft recently celebrated the release of the operating system on 1.3 billions of active devices on a monthly basis), but the parent company has finally decided to solve this problem, which in technical terms is called Rapid Hot Plug Detect (o Rapid HPD) and which occurs specifically on inter-display connections initiated using a setup via DisplayPort, but it is also verified with connections using alternative slots and cables, come l’HDMI. Microsoft's announcement reports that their engineers have worked to "mitigate desktop redistribution when Rapid HPD occurs".
Currently this feature is only available to those who are part of the Windows Insider Program with the build 21287 or later and is activated automatically, no installations are required. To check what your build is, follow these simple steps:
- Open Windows Settings
- Go to "System"
- Click on "Information"
- Under "Windows Specifications" search for "Build Operating System"
This is a feature for multiple connected monitors, it is activated only when there are at least two monitors connected to a fixed computer or a monitor connected to a laptop.
If you are not part of the Insider program and are not interested in participating, the wait will be a little longer but not excessive: the fix will probably be part of the second half-yearly update, in autumn 2021. In a few days, in May, the first will be available, but there are no striking news.
